City based choreographer Sachin Shinde’s first tryst with fame came with choreographing for a reality dance show on a Marathi channel. He went on to showcase his skills and made Ritesh Deshmukh groove to his moves in the film Double Dhamaal and also assited choreographers for few Bhojpuri films until he realised that he could try his luck in acting as well.
It was Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan who spotted him, explaining scenes to junior artists, and suggested he take up acting seriously. He fondly remembers, “He called me into his van and said that I had immense potential to become an actor and I should not underestimate myself. He was the first one to suggest that I should try my luck with acting.”
Sachin will play a negative role in his Marathi debut film Aapan Yanna Pahilat Ka? Several eye-brows were raised over his decision but Sachin is confident that this is the best break for him. He says, “I want to do quality work. Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher are my inspiration. I want to do something out-of -the-box! I am playing a negative role in my debut film and it is different and exciting.” Sachin was already chosen to choreograph for the film. The directors of the film Prasad Patki and Amol Jadhav were looking for somebody who could play the negative role. They approached Sachin for the role.
Acting is not alien to him. He reveals, “I had done theatre during my school days but never thought of pursuing acting as a career. I went on to pursue dance. I do all types of dances like jazz, hiphop, salsa, but Bollywood dancing has always been my favourite. Bollywood dancing is not just about right moves and getting the steps right, expressions also play an important role. Even during my workshops, I give special training to my students to improvise their expressions.”
In past the choreographers who tried their hand at acting didn’t really succeed. But Sachin isn’t worried about it. He says, “For me choreography is my priority. Dance is my passion. Given an option between acting and choreography I’d choose choreography any day. I don’t have anything to lose!” While assisting choreographer Dilip Mistry for the film DD, he got to lend his moves to Ritesh Deshmukh, Javed Jafferi and Arshad Warsi. He adds, “The dream sequence consisting of the Arabic style of dance was choreographed by me. Mistry lets me experiment and I have learnt a lot from him.”
